Creative Ways to Hide Outdoor Unit
You love your air conditioner. It keeps you alive in the brutal summers. You know how much you need it, but it’s really not making your yard look pretty. It’s out of place. The color is wrong, and you have an otherwise gorgeous lawn that doesn’t accommodate this random testament to industry, just sticking out of the ground. It’s OK. 1. Plants
Plantlife is the go-to solution for hiding anything you want to be obscured in your yard or lawn. Bushes are probably the easiest thing to plant around the AC unit, but you can let your creativity run wild. Small trees are another easy choice.
If you want to add color, you can build a flower garden around the unit. Planters can ensure that the garden is elevated enough to do its job. You can also grow vines around the area to get a little more control over how well the unit is covered. There is a plant for every occasion and purpose, and that can include hiding your air conditioner. Do keep in mind, however, that the air conditioner needs space around it to breathe. And you don’t want to let plants grow down onto the top of the unit.
2. Enclosures
Blocking the AC unit with an enclosure gives you the most options. A simple fence will look nice and perfectly hide the unit. Conversely, you can build a fancy custom enclosure around the unit.
There really are no limits to what you can do. You can reclaim pallets to build a rustic box for the unit. You can make an aluminum-slatted enclosure. You can even cordon off an entire section of the yard for a private garden that hides your AC unit in the back.
3. A Paver Wall
Technically, a paver wall is just another enclosure, but it’s worth mentioning separately for a few reasons. One is that the paver wall can be part of a retaining wall structure that looks good and gives your yard flow. Another is that you can tie the paver wall into a paver path that makes everything look deliberate and pleasing to the eye.
Paver walls are a simple and affordable way to solve this problem. You get a great aesthetic, and it doesn’t require an intimidating investment of time or money.
Pay Attention to Safety Requirements
Before you commit to your plan, double-check the manual for safety requirements. The unit needs to be able to vent air and heat. Most of these ideas will never be a fire hazard, but you always want to be certain of that from the outset.
